.au Direct Domain Priority Status

.au direct names have been launched for Priority Status, registrants with existing .au domain names (ending in com.au, net.au, org.au, asn.au, id.au) will have the chance to apply for a Priority Status.

This status will allow existing .au domain holders to register the exact match of their domain name with .au. The Priority Status application period will run for six months to ensure .au holders have enough time to register their direct au domain.

If you already have a website ending in com.au, net.au, org.au or any 3rd level .au domain, you get priority rights to the matching domain in .au

You must use the same contact information & eligibility requirements (eg: ABN/ACN) as your existing domain name.

The registry will use these to verify it's really you who is claiming the domain.

If you or your organisation is interested in registering a .au direct domain name based on an existing third-level domain name, you should note that:

  • You will be able to apply for priority status in March 2022.
  • There will be a fee payable upon application.
  • Your eligibility to hold your existing third-level domain name will be checked when you apply; and
  • You will need to apply, even if there are no other eligible parties.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or queries or require additional assistance in registering for a Priority Status.
